A fun tribute to the Bibb Graves bridge

YMCA Wetumpka

A space that tells a story

When the YMCA in Wetumpka wanted to add something special to their space, it was used as an opportunity to celebrate the community they serve. The design features a stylized illustration of the iconic Bibb Graves Bridge, a landmark that has become closely tied to Wetumpka’s identity. By incorporating a recognizable local landmark, the mural creates an instant connection with members, visitors, and the broader community.

Designed for the surface

Installing graphics on cinderblock presents a unique challenge, but it also creates an opportunity for something truly special. Instead of sitting flat on the wall like a typical graphic, this wrap was carefully heat-gunned and contoured into the texture of the block. The result is a finish that almost looks painted directly onto the wall. Every groove and contour of the surface becomes part of the final look, giving the artwork a permanent, built-in feel while still maintaining the durability and flexibility of printed vinyl (and being 100% removable). It’s one of our favorite ways to transform spaces into something visually striking.

A local landmark worth celebrating

The Bibb Graves Bridge has long been one of Wetumpka’s most recognizable landmarks. Named after David Bibb Graves, Alabama’s 38th governor, the bridge carries both historical and cultural significance for the region. It’s also gained national attention over the years; several scenes from the film Big Fish were filmed on the bridge, introducing this iconic structure to audiences far beyond Alabama. By bringing this landmark into the YMCA space through illustration, the wall wrap becomes more than decoration. It’s a tribute to the history, culture, and pride of the Wetumpka community. At PubPlus, that’s exactly what we love to do, help organizations share their story.
